Literature Text

one day a small boy was wandering around in the woods. The reason he was in the woods was he was searching.
For food, for water, for people who would be what he needed most.... a family.
After walking in these woods for what seemed like a long time the boy spotted a strange tree. He found that the tree was
easy to climb and decided to do so thinking that the treetop would help him find a way out of these woods.
He climbed until he was even with the lowest branches of nearby trees. He climbed until he was higher than the nearest trees.
He climbed until the clouds were all he could see. Yet he climbed higher. He stopped climbing when he found some ground to
rest on. After a short rest the boy decided to explore the strange trees he found himself wandering. Before Long he heard
water. He ran toward the sound until he came to a huge river. He sat on a bank nearest the waters edge and drank til he was
no longer thirsty. Unknown to him the bank he was on was close to fall into the water. As he sat up to look around the bank
broke. He suddenly found himself trying to stay above water. He tried swimming for shore but soon found that the water was
taking him whever it was going.

Further down river a gorgeous brown and white girl horse named rain was drinking from a stream. She stopped when she heard
a voice calling out for help. She look all around for the tiny voice. Then she spotted something being brought toward her
in the stream. She quickly decided that she'd save the poor little creature. She lowered her huge head and tipped it so
that one of her ears entered the water ahead of the sturggling critter.

The little boy was having a tough time in the water when a huge pink and white triangle appreared in the water close enough
for the little boy to grab on to. As he hung on the triangle lifted out of the water and brought him to shore. He let go
of it when his feet touched ground. As he blinked away the water dropletts covering his face he noticed the triangle
had started lifting up again. Watching the triangle move he saw that it was actually a big ear that belonged to an even
bigger horse. The boy was afraid and couldn't move. He was beginning to cry.

Before Rain could get a could look at the creature it started cry. The poor thing how could she soothe it? She lowered her
head til her nosed gently rubbed against the crying little thing. A different sound started to come from it.

The boy laughed as the giant horses fuzzy nose tickled him. He had seen horses and people together before and knew they
weren't mean. Maybe this one was a nice horse. He watched as the giant horse moved her nose away to look at him again.
In her eyes the boy stared, There he saw kidness. He knew she was a nice horse, even as big as she was. Maybe she could
help him find a family.

Before the boy could do anything her heard a strange sound coming from the giant horse. This was no sound he though a horse
could make. The sound was not a scary sound but one he knew was used to calm him. He again went still, not out of fear but
out of amazement.

All rain could do to hush the boy was show him she was nice and maybe shush him. She didn't think it had worked until she
heard no sound from the little cerature. When she looked she saw it sitting still. It's tiny mouth was wide open just like
it's eyes. Rain decided to further comfort it by saying "It's okay don't be afraid".

This got the tiny boy moving, and speaking. "You can talk?" he asked still amazed. Horses he knew of could never talk like
people. Then again this place he was in was different from where he came from. Everything was bigger. The trees looked way
different. A second look at the trees made him realize he was wrong. What he thought was trees was actually blades of grass.
These thoughts were interrupted when the giant horse spoke again.

"Yes I can talk, as can you. The same words too. We can understand each other. Maybe this can help fix your problem". She
now had a way to find out more about the boy. "What are you, are you okay?" She asked the tiny creature hoping he'd hear
these words as well as the others she'd said.

"I'm a boy" the boy said. "I'm not hurt but I'm all alone and scared of the new place" he said nervously. If the giant horse
could hear his words maybe his chances of her helping him were better. He had to try and find out. "Will you help me, I'm
lost and can't find my way?" the boys asked.

"As small as you are how could I say no. You need someone to look after you. I'll help you as long as you need me too." rain
promised. Though he was small and alone rain wanted to get to know the boy better. " Can you tell me more about yourself and
how you got in that stream?" rain asked.

"I was lost in a forest where I came from and climbed a tree to see if I could find a way out. I ended up beside that river
and fell in after I drank then after trying to get to shore for a long time you saved me." He explained. "Thank you for
saving me." He finished.

"You're welcome little one, Do you have a name?" rain asked. "No." the little boy replied sadly. "Mine's rain." She told
the little boy. "How about we call you Dan G?" She asked. Sure dan replied.

Rain decided to look around a moment as she thought about what to do next. While she was looking away dan got a good look at
her. She had a brown and white body, golden light yellow mane and tail and blue eyes that held both beauty and kindness.
"Alright dan let's get away from this stream and find some place for you to rest for the night" rain suggested. Then she
turned and started walking away. After a few steps she turned to see how dan was keeping up. He was running to make up for
the few steps she'd taken. When he'd finally caught up he leaned on her back right hoof for a rest. This wouldn't do.

Carefully rain turned back, lowered her head to the ground and told dan to climb on. For dan climbing onto a giant horses
face was something he'd never done nor heard of doing. He did so carefully. When he reached the spot between her ears he
decided to use a little bit of the mane around him to tie himself to her so he wouldn't fall. He then made sure she could
hear him from where he was and soon they were heading off.

Later that night dan was leaning against rain's huge belly as she curled around him to protect him and keep him warm. With
her soft warm fur around him and her soft voice singing it wasn't long before dan fell asleep. This gave rain some time to
think about the little boy she was now taking care of. When she finally dozed off her mind was as peaceful and happy as dans
who she now cared for.

Days and weeks followed with niether of them making any progress on helping dan. Then after a tiring day rain fell asleep
before dan. As dan leaned against her belly he thought about this kind horse. He thought about how she cared for him even
though she didn't know him. As his thoughts of her spun in his head he realized something. That final happy though put him
to sleep that night.

The next morning rain wanted to get moving quickly. "We don't have to go anywhere." dan said. He seemed happier than usual.
Rain could think of no reason to stay. "Did you find something?" she asked. "Yes I did." dan replied. "I found everything
I was looking for." This confused rain, until she felt dan hugger her nose. "It's all right here.. if you want to be my mom"
dan hinted. Tears of happiness poured from both of thier eyes.

Years later dan, still with rain, had grown up just as kind as she was. Both were happy and both now had become part of a
bigger family.
Contest entry for the da herd's group contest. Basic kid's story I did for creative writing a few years back that I tried to rewrite just for the contest (as a tribute to the most gorgeous nag out there (rain from spirit). Decided not to have it proofread so excuse the bad grammer.
